GB Freestyle Team Selection event 2007
October 25th, 2007 · No Comments
Please find below the details for this year’s GB Team selection event, to select a team for the European Championships to be held in Galicia in Spain, July 21-27 2008.
As previously published the event will take place on the 8th and 9th December (which follows nicely on from Kayakojacko’s Hurley rodeo on the 1st and 2nd December).
Saturday 8th December will be at Hurley (pending written confirmation from EA for use of the weir bridge for judging) on 2, 3 or 4 gates, this will be in the ‘hole’ gate only – i.e NOT the middle gate on 3 gates, or the wall gate on 2 gates.
Sunday 9th December will be at Nottingham in the Inlet gate (at a hard-to-set-up type of level, which will hopefully be set up at least a week, preferably longer, before the competition – but as always will depend on Slalom)
The squirt event will also be on the Saturday at Hurley and on the Sunday at Nottingham
If:
a) Hurley is too low/too high (decision to be made on the Thursday – after consultation with the Hurley lock-keeper on predicted levels, too high means high in the stanchions and roughly equates to Mapledurham running at around 12-13 ft) – the event will be held at Nottingham on both days. The features to be used will be decided on at least 2 weeks beforehand but will depend on what is best at the time.
b) Nottingham is too high (decision to be made on the Thursday – after consultation with Slalom course staff) but Hurley is running, the event will just be at Hurley.
c) If both are too high, then there will be a back-up competition in mid-Feb to March.
Rules
The same rules will be used as last year – these are the current ECA rules with a technical score addition.
3 runs, 2 count at each event. BUT the 3rd run will count at both venues if there is a tie (see below).
Paddlers will be given points related to their position at each event (30, 27, 25, 24) etc. as last year) these will then be added together to give the overall position. HOWEVER… the tie-break situation is different to last year. In the event of a tie we will use the 3rd ride at each venue and add the top score to the bottom score, (instead of the 2 top scores), and take the ranking from that (this means that rankings are used rather than raw scores which is fairer as it eliminates the heavy-weighting from the super-high scores obtained in the inlet gate).
Cost/Registration
Entry cost: £35, if entry is by Fri 23rd Nov (£50 for 2 categories)
Entry after Fri 23rd Nov will be £45 (£60 for 2 categories) – we want to encourage early entries so we know how many people will be competing.
The entry costs cover course fees and judges expenses.
Entry form now online at www.ukfreestyle.com
Thanks, Flea.
